About Joe Weaver
Joe is a local artist who has been painting in acrylic medium for over 10 years. His source of inspiration is nature. The love of the outdoors and adventure are evident in his work. He portrays the underwater realm, seascapes,landscapes, wildlife, and still life objects as well.
“The tropical landscape provides an endless source of subject matter for any artist to draw upon. My paintings reflect the places and subjects that I admire and am inspired by. The beauty of the ocean and land has a special meaning to me and I hope the viewer can see that in my work and appreciate what our island has to offer.
My approach to painting is simple. I experience the environment I want to paint, usually more than once, or study a subject from various angles, photograph it, then transfer it to canvas in my own way. Emphasizing an area, enhancing the color or complementing the scene with other elements, are ways I may improvise the photograph to make it work. Other compositions happen spontaneously. They are created from memory and flow straight from the brush effortlessly from my hand onto the canvas."
Joe works as a part-time artist from his studio and dedicates himself full-time as an art educator on island. He has exhibited his work in galleries of Hawaii, Saipan and Guam.
